5 out of 5 stars Onkyo Receiver SR606   November 24, 2008

Excellent receiver and good buy too. No more tons of wires to the TV. Easy access to all my components.

4 out of 5 stars Onkyo TX-SR606   November 24, 2008
This is a great receiver for anyone who is trying to upgrade to the latest sound formats on a budget. Originally I wanted to buy a Marantz 5003 or a Denon 2308CI but once you view the prices on these items you will see why i opted for the Onkyo. Overall, this is a great sounding receiver with ample power to drive any upper mid-level speaker set up. My only complaint with this item is the fact that the video upscaling is not the greatest. With that being said you have to also understand that video upscaling is something that really doesn't exisit. When you take a 480p signal and upscale it to 1080i your result is not a true 1080 signal, it is nothing more than a very streched 480p singal that tricks your tv into displaying 1080i. I would not let poor video upscaling keep me from buying this item because it's the thing i care the least about considering i can go buy a blu-ray player and have a pass through 1080p signal. All in All, excellent sound and a good amount of features that will satisfy most people's needs. I got it for 286 dollars direct from AMAZON, need i say more?

5 out of 5 stars awesome   November 23, 2008
I'm one of those people, that when I buy something electronic, I research it to death. I was looking for a receiver under $400. After my research I went with onkyo and am not disappointed at all. I was extremely easey to set up and hook up. The best part is the surround doesn't overwhelm the center channel during action movies and TV. Great sound, easy to set up, every connection I need, and great price.

3 out of 5 stars Very good, but beware of the HUMMM   November 20, 2008

After reading reviews and talking with sales reps, I decided on the Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver instead of the Yamaha. I am happy with my purchase as the Onkyo produces great sound and video and has many extras. However, the Onkyo has developed a loud and noticeable hummm. (I've had it about 2 months) Some of the reviews mentioned this, but I thought they were just the unfortunate few. Now, I'm one of them. I will take it in to an authorized Onkyo service repair center, but this is a pain. The repair center has already told me that the parts to fix this are backlogged for several weeks.
If you buy the Onkyo 606, maybe you will be one of the fortunate few that don't have to deal with the HUMMMM.

5 out of 5 stars Great Value   November 18, 2008

before i go into the review let me state i own a Denon 3808, Onkyo 805, and this Onkyo 606

Out of all those 3 the 606 is the best value, with 4 hdmi input. that are capable of upconverting to 1080P. But there are some things that you don't get with with the 606 that you do with the 805. some of which include a power plug to plug into a fan ( if you don't already know onkyo's get VERY VERY hot) and you will want a small computer fan along and/or plenty of room to breathe (NO STACKING). As for power i challenge anyone to find speakers that it can't handle, you won't find any. The auto calibration system that they use in both the 606 and the 805 in considered by most to be the very best in the industry. the standalone version of the box that does what the reciever can do cost $1500

If you are just getting into the whole home theater rig or you are looking to replace a existing reciever, you won't regret the 606. i have owned Sony's, Panasonic's, Denon's, Onkyo's, and Poineer's. and out all of those Onkyo gives you the most for your money
