Great for parties November 16, 2008 Works great with my Onkyo A/V receiver. So far I've used my 1st Gen iPhone as well as my old iPod nano with no problems. The included remote works great with both and is very user-friendly. Plus setup is snap out of the box - I literally just plugged it in, popped my iPod in and hit Play on the remote and off I went.
Although the audio output seems a bit muffled, I'm not sure if it's the receiver of the dock that's at fault. I also haven't tried to watch video with it, so I have no feedback there. My goal was just to be able to play my iPod music through the living room receiver when I have people over. Works great for me.
Great sound November 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great sound out of this device. Video kind of sucks. OSD is old looking.
charging your iTouch2 on the Onkyo DS-A2X dock November 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In case anyone is wondering, it DOES charge the newest iTouch (Gen2) models, unlike many other high-end docking products out there (and in my home !!). Apple dropped the ball (again!) when it suddenly changed the charging system that worked on ALL previous models of iPod and iTouch: suddenly I've got a bunch of products like AM/FM Alarm Clock docking station, and AM/FM portable speaker unit for the iPod/iTouch, and stereo receiver connected docking pod, ALL of which now don't charge the newest iTouch. It's like Apple expects that you can throw out all your expensive electronic accessories that you bought for your iPod/iTouch every time you upgrade iPod/iTouch to a newer model? how crazy is that!
Anyway, this is the worst Onkyo device I've ever seen, due to it's onscreen graphics and so-so audio output to the receiver. I love onkyo products, generally, and have been buying them for fifteen years. But this one is a dud. There are other iPod/iTouch adapters out there from other manufacturers that are much better than this one. And its price is outrageous!
The bad reviews are right November 4, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Physically this is a solid, nice looking dock. It's pretty easy to install and use, although I wish it used HDMI or DVI or something to eliminate the big mass of cables in the back. It will work on a non-Onkyo tuner (although I did test it on one).
But the on-screen interface is as horrible as many of the reviews mention. It's like the display of something you might find from the 1980s. And the remote is poorly laid out and counter intuitive.
I was ready and planning to not use the on-screen interface at all. I really just wanted a simple way to charge the iPod and play music from it through my stereo. But you have to use the on-screen interface because the iPod controls are disabled once you plug it into the dock. You can't even start playing a song on the iPod and then plug it into the dock and let it continue playing - it'll immediately stop as soon as it's plugged into the dock, unlike for example the iPod interface in a MINI Cooper.
So I'm returning it. If it were 1/4 or 1/3rd the price, I may have kept it. But at full price it's not worth it.
