Does the job Sony neglected to include. December 6, 2008 I have a Logitech Harmony 880, and I wanted to use it with my PS3. Since Sony decided in their infinite wisdom to not include an IR port on the PS3, this excellent PS3 accessory nicely fills in the IR port requirement. I simply plugged in the USB dongle and added PlayStation 3 Blu Wave as my device on the Harmony. It works without a problem, especially once I adjusted the signal delays. The dongle blends well with the styling of the PS3 to the point where it is nearly unnoticeable. With the price of under $15, it is a much better investment than the Sony BD remote particularly for PS3 owners with universal remote controls.
Excellent December 4, 2008 If you don't like to use the remote to run the DVD player this is the way to go. I hated the used of the controller, to start a movie is no problem but when you wanted to back up or freeze the movie or anything like that I usually ended up starting the whole thing over again. This works much better. It does have to have the USP plugged in just like a wireless mouse on your computer but you can keep that stored away with the remote until you plan to use it.
Overall A
Doesn't work all the time... :( December 4, 2008 The title says it all ... it's a good remote for the most part. When it works, it's fine. It just does not want to work every time I press a button. Frequently, I am on the main menu and try pushing the up/down/right/left buttons to select an item, and it seems the remote does not want to respond at all. I have to push the button a few times before I get a hit. Also, the range is not very good. I'm having slight trouble from ~12 feet away. And this thing is not even a month old. I'm likely going to replace it with the Sony PS3 remote. Even now, I find myself resorting to the game controller for DVD control...
Universal Remote - CHECK! November 25, 2008 So the Playstation3 has built-in Bluetooth, which is nice and you can allways get the custom remote - but if you want to use a universal remote that has IR-only, buy this, plug the USB stick into the PS3 and the IR can now work on the universal. I use the Sony RM-AV3000 Universal LEARNING remote, so this was a breeze.
Good controller, mediocre remote November 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Cutting to the chase, the actual remote that comes with the product is pretty poor quality. That's because most people buy this to use the USB controller with a universal remote and plan to toss the actual remote. If you're looking to use a universal remote with your PS3, this is a great option. If you're just looking for a Blu-ray/DVD remote, look elsewhere.
