1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   August 31, 2007

Sad to say it's true. Very disappointed with AudioSource, they normally offer good products for the money. This isn't one.

Ordered and received an AudioSource Amp 300 (new) about three months ago and was using it to drive a pair of JBL 4412 studio monitors. After about three months of use, the right channel died. I verified the right channel of this amp had indeed failed by swapping audio inputs and the speaker outputs. Still no right channel.

I never abused this amp in anyway. Living in a apartment, volume levels were always kept low and I had the amp placed on a shelve with plenty of ventilation. Even after hours of use, it barely felt warm to the touch.

I realize this is an inexpensive amp, but failing this quickly after light use is no excuse. I own several other audiosource products that are several years old and they still work wonderfully. That's why I must give this AudioSource Amp 300 a poor rating. It has a flawed design and I recommend to look elsewhere.

1 out of 5 stars It died after just 6 months   August 31, 2007

This amp is cheap, but you get what you pay for. I was using to drive 4 speakers (8 ohm bridged). After just 6 months of bi-weekly use, it stopped working.

1 out of 5 stars Mine went out too   July 2, 2007

After six months of mostly sitting idle in a cool basement with very little playing time, my Amp 300 gave up the ghost too. It just dims the lights as it blows a circuit breaker. After a couple of goes at that, it does nothing at all. I thought about sending it back, but quickly realized that with such poor quality, I don't want even a replacement to be connected to my expensive speakers at all. I don't want them destroyed too the next time it goes out. I am getting a Niles SI-2125.

1 out of 5 stars Audio Source Amp 300   July 2, 2007

The review indicating a reviewer's "10 year" satisfaction with this product is misleading. The AudioSource Amp 300 replaced the venerable Audio Source Model Four in roughly 2005, so the reviews from those who claim to have had the product for about 18 months to two years are more "on target".

I have owned both the older Model Four and the newer Amp 300. In many ways, the Model Four is a better product. For one thing, it sports two large power-output meters on the front chassis while the Model 300 lacks the meters and sports a more austere design. Both have the same output characteristics and both are "bridgeable".

Where the Model Four also meets expectations is that, for me at least, the one and only unit I have ever owned is still operating perfectly, while my first Model 300 was dead-on-arrival and its replacement has now failed after only about 15 months of light use. This is truly unfortunate in that the other Audio Souce products I own, an older equalizer and pre-amp, have, like the Model Four, performed flawlessly since purchase. One can only speculate that, perhaps, the company has experienced difficulty with the redesign from the Model Four to the Amp 300, and that, also, quality may be an issue since the company was acquired at about the same time as the new models were introduced.

I've contacted the warranty and sales department at Audio Source, and, hopefully, will have good news to report from that front if I can get satisfaction regarding repair or replacement.

5 out of 5 stars My Experience With This Amp Is Different   April 27, 2007

I have owned this amp for about 10 years and have never experienced a problem with it. It is quite powerful and comfortable with driving difficult 4 ohm loads. The sound of this amp is wonderful - solid bass and extended highs with a "liquid" mid-range. You would have to spend over $1,000 to get anything to match it. It is built like a battleship.
Considering it's price/value ratio I must give it 5 stars.
