1 out of 5 stars Avoid this Amp!!!   May 7, 2008

This amp is absolute junk. I am the Technology Coordinator for a small mid western school district. We bought this amp (actually, we bought 9 of them) from our local AV supplier for use in the classroom. They are hooked to a DVD/VCR player and a pair of small Dual brand speakers. Nothing fancy.
After less than a year of use I now have three of them that don't work properly. Two of them have the sound cut out intermittently and one has a loud hum through the speakers whenever the unit is turned on. I was told by the AV supplier to make sure nothing was sitting on top of them because the weight would cause them to short out. For the record, nothing has sat on top of any of these amps since we got them, but I don't think that says too much for the robustness of this product when you can't set anything on top of it. Have you ever seen a stereo cabinet where components weren't stacked?
Bottom line: This is "Made in China" junk and should be avoided.

PS: So far I have sent one of these back to the company for repair under warranty. They said it would take 3 to 6 weeks to get it back. This is the year 2008. What takes 6 weeks to repair?

4 out of 5 stars small, simple, works fine   May 3, 2008
I hooked this unit up to the audio output of my hdtv and then with stereo wires to my Bose 201 speakers and it works great. I am using the Bose speakers as rear speakers and the hdtv speakers for the front to get pretty good surround sound. Of course, I need to manually adjust the volume of the amp for the rear speakers, but once set, its good to go for an entire movie.

4 out of 5 stars Don't forget to buy the input cable!   May 2, 2008
Good product so far - I'm not sure how I missed the fact that you need to have an audio RCA cable, but it was clear as day when I got it out of the box. With that little fiasco figured out, I've been completely happy with it. Thanks!

1 out of 5 stars Died after 18 months of light use   March 22, 2008

I really liked the features of this unit. I use it to power some speakers in my back yard, and I feed it either with an iPod or an Airport Express so I can wireless send music from my laptop to the speakers in the back yard. The auto-off feature meant I could have the Amp in my garage and whenever the music stopped, it would turn off and I wouldn't have to worry about leaving it running. Seemed like a great solution.

And it was. For about 18 months, when one day, it just stopped working. Lights come on as normal, looks functional, just doesn't make any sound through either speaker.

To check things out, I hooked up my old trusty Carver m100t amp (that's almost 30 years old now) and my speakers, the ipod, the Airport Express worked fine.

So you may be thinking, it's only $99. I can buy another one when it breaks. After all, it will probably cost over $100 to get it fixed.

But it's an amp. I shouldn't break. It should just keep working. There aren't enough parts to go wrong. Yet somehow, this one just died on its own. Kind of typical of the made in China stuff we keep seeing that only lasts 1-2 years.

Very disappointed.

(Oh, and when I bought it, it cost almost twice as much. So I'm extra disappointed with the failure.)

5 out of 5 stars Great for IPOD lovers   March 13, 2008
So easy to hook up to our old bose speakers and a monster cable connection to our ipod. Our 25-year old amplifier gave out, and this works even better. It took a couple of senior citizens only 5 minutes to do.
